The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, William Ampem-Darko, accused of verbal assault, has escaped punishment by Parliament’s Privileges Committee. The committee has however asked the Director-General of the state broadcaster to render an unqualified apology to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi Asokwa K.T. Hammond. The Director-General was dragged to Parliament’s Privileges Committee last month to explain why he verbally assaulted Mr Hammond. His outburst was provoked by Mr Hammond who had called for his dismissal, accusing him of taking politically-motivated decisions which have adversely affected the output of the state broadcaster. The committee’s report is expected to be laid in Parliament today.Speaking to Joy News Mr Hammond said he was happy the matter has finally come to a closure.Responding to whether the conclusion met his expectation, the Adansi Asokwa MP said he would not dispute the appropriateness of Parliament's decisions.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com
