George Opesika Aggudey has revealed plans to contest the flag-bearership slop of the party ahead of the 2012 general elections.
According to Mr. Aggudey, the CPP is at a cross roads, hence the need for committed and dedicated people to revitalise the party to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 elections.
George Aggudey who was the CPP’s candidate for the 2004 presidential elections lost to Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum at the party’s delegate congress in his bid to lead the party in the 2008 general elections.
He threatened to take legal action to nullify the election results in 2008 because he claimed some of the delegates who were perceived to be his supporters had their names intentionally deleted from the voters' register which caused his downfall.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, George Aggudey underscored his preparedness to build a formidable, vibrant CPP and lead the party to victory in 2012.
He said Ghana will never be prosperous unless the CPP comes to power to continue the legacy of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
George Aggudey stated that the ruling NDC and opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) do not have the interest and development of the country at heart but only seek their own parochial interests.
He observed that the NDC and NPP strive to come to power just to loot the country off its resources to the detriment of Ghanaians.
The presidential hopeful urged Ghanaians to vote massively for the CPP in 2012 to redeem the country from the economic hardships they have been subjected to by past and successive governments.
On the party's upcoming congress, George Aggudey advised party delegates to elect very competent and marketable candidates who would win votes for the party in 2012.
He urged the delegates not to allow any candidate to influence them with money because the fate of the party is in their hands.
George Aggudey stressed that it is imperative that the leadership of the party ensures that the elections are devoid of all forms of malpractices in order to choose a rightful leader who could lead the CPP to victory.
Meanwhile, the National delegates' congress of the CPP is scheduled to be held on September 9 at the Trade Fair Center here in Accra.
About two thousand delegates are expected to attend the congress to elect the party’s national executives.
After the delegates' congress, the National Executive Council of CPP will set a date for the flag-bearership elections.
