The Ghana Education Service (GES) has partnered waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Ltd, for a nationwide fumigation and disinfection exercise that will cover both public and private second-cycle institutions across the country.
The exercise is aimed at fighting the coronavirus spread.
During the launch at the Accra Girls Senior High School on Tuesday, April 14, Education Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, said the nationwide project is part of government’s resolve to hold the spread of Covid-19.
The Minister urged heads of the schools to cooperate with Zoomlion for the successful execution of the disinfection exercise.
He said the exercise, which started at the Accra Girls Senior High School after the launch, is also aimed at ridding second cycle boarding houses of parasites such as bedbugs.
The disinfection will be in two phases: Phase One starts with the fumigation of the schools within the period that schools in the country have been closed down.
The second phase will involve the disinfection to ensure a conductive that teaching and learning environment of the schools in the country.
Senior High Schools (SHS), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVETS) and Special Schools across the country will benefit from the exercise.
Over the past weeks, government has undertaken similar exercises in major and satellite markets across the country. Ministries and other government departments have also not been left out.
