The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sanctioned Nations FC forward Emmanuel Annor for what it described as misconduct following a goal celebration during a Ghana Premier League fixture against Asante Kotoko.
Annor, after scoring, removed his jersey to unveil an undershirt bearing the inscription “I belong to Jesus.”
The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA found the act in breach of league regulations prohibiting the display of religious or political messages during matches. He has been fined GHS 500 and issued a formal warning.

The GFA, in a statement dated May 13, 2025, reminded players of the need to uphold the principles of neutrality and professionalism on the field. It warned that any recurrence of such conduct would attract stiffer sanctions, including possible suspension.
Annor’s celebration has sparked debate among football fans and pundits. While some see his gesture as a harmless expression of faith, others argue that religious messages have no place in professional football settings governed by strict codes of conduct.
The GFA’s ruling reinforces its commitment to ensuring discipline and uniformity within the league, affirming that personal beliefs, however heartfelt, must not interfere with the sport’s regulations.
