Ghana will insist on the release of John Paintsil for pre-Nations Cup camping on December 27 after Roy Hodgson’s charge of disrespect touched raw nerves in the corridors of power at the GFA.
The Black Stars will head to Nelspruit for camping ahead of the Nations Cup on December 27 and the GFA say they will ask for Paintsil to be released that same day after their manager Roy Hodgson claimed he will defy them.
Hodgson wants right back Paintsil to play on December 28 against Chelsea before being released for the Nations Cup camping and called Ghana’s request for the player on December 27 ‘a bit disrespectful’.
“That has not gone down well with officials of the GFA. If there was any reason why the Fulham manager wanted John Paintsil to report later than the date we requested the best thing to do would have been to talk to us, we are reasonable people. But we won’t allow anyone to trample on our rights and will now have to insist on the right thing being done,” GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe said.
Paintsil has been the regular right back for both club and country and insist the row will not affect his loyalty to both.
Despite the GFA’s tough stance too it seems consideration of Paintsil’s club career will eventually force the GFA to allow him play in that Chelsea game before he flies to South Africa.
