The Ghana Football Association has sent a strong message to clubs who fail to adhere to the new security and matchday safety protocols approved by the Executive Council.
The newly enhanced protocols were necessitated by the unfortunate incident involving the fatal stabbing of an Asante Kotoko fan, Nana Pooley, during a matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman and Kotoko.
According to the Ghana FA, in a statement released on Wednesday, it would be an offence if Club Safety Security Officers fail to meet any of the various safety standards.
“Club Safety Security Officers shall endeavor to compile - in cooperation with the police authorities - a record of all known "risk supporters" to be used when liaising with fellow security officers of other clubs, travel companies and police authorities (etc.) in connection with both home and away matches the use of such records must be compatible with human rights considerations.
“CSSOs shall also attend the Match Coordinating Meeting for the said match.
“It shall be an offence should a Club fail to comply or cooperate with this Protocol
“The initial fine shall be at least GHc20,000. A repeat offence shall lead to a Venue Ban and an additional fine of GHc50,000,” the statement said.
Asante Kotoko earlier this week expressed disappointment over the Ghana FA’s handling of the stabbing incident, and called for a swift of existing security protocols.
