The Ghana Employers Association (GEA) has donated a hundred thousand cedis (Gh₵ 100,000) towards the management and administration of Ghana’s first infectious disease centre located at the Ga East Municipal Hospital in Accra.
A delegation from the GEA, led by the President, Daniel Acheampong, made the donation after touring the facility.
The delegation also presented hand sanitizers and some personal protective equipment to the facility.
Presenting the items, Mr. Acheampong said the Ghana Employee Association has been part of the concept from the start.
"But we can’t be just conceptual partners. We have to offer practical support.
"This is a demonstration of the fact that we are a private sector organization and we are aware of the fact that government can’t do it all by itself. So we decided to make this donation and this will be the first of the series,” he added.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned the 100-bed Ghana Infectious Disease Centre on Friday, July 24, 2020. The Ghana Covid-19 Private Fund is hoping to raise funds to construct similar facilities in Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi.
The project was completed in three months at a cost of 7.5 million US dollars.
Mr. Acheampong commended the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, which promoted the project and spearheaded its construction.
“We are amazed that we have been able to do this in such a short period of time and to think that most of the items in here were made by Ghanaians convinces us that we have so much talent and there is a lot that we can do for ourselves to propel our country,” he said.
Managing trustee of the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi expressed appreciation for the donation.
He said that the funds were coming at a very critical time.
“We are very grateful that you have us in your thoughts. We are really happy to have our colleagues stand by us,” he added.
