The Junior Female Black Sticks lost their third game on the trot in the ongoing FIH hockey junior women’s world cup in Monchengladbach, Germany. Ghana played a much more improved game on Tuesday but failed to defend and score, leaving hockey sleeping giants the USA to beat them 6-0.
This brings to a total of 25 goals scored against Ghana in the three group games so far.
The results place the Ghanaian Junior Black Sticks at the bottom of the four-team group with no point as defending champions, Holland and USA picked the group’s ticket for the quarter-final stage of the July 27 to August 4 tournament.
Ghana conceded three goals in each half but they could have ended the match at least 4-1 but lost concentration in the last three minutes while blowing away a golden opportunity to score their first ever World Cup goal on their maiden appearance.
Hard working Ernestina Coffie missed the upright narrowly with 10 minutes of playing time left which could have changed the game in favour of the Junior Black Sticks.
The team begins their placement match on Thursday against either Canada or South Africa depending on the outcome of the final Pool B matches Tuesday.
Ghana has conceded a total of 25 goals in three matches including 10-0 against The Netherlands and nine against Korea Republic.
