This year’s Ghana Amateur Open Golf Championship will tee off at the Tema Country Golf Course from Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3.Mr John Wattengburg, Secretary-General of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) told the GNA Sports at Tema on Monday that the three-day 54-Hole event, which will be open to amateur golfers throughout the country, would be sponsored by Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited.He said the competition, which was expected to attract about 150 golfers, would be played in accordance with the rules of the World’s golf governing body and the local rules of the Tema Country Golf Club.Mr Wattengburg said the event under the auspices of the GGA, would be played in two categories with the first being Handicap 0-19, while the other would be in Handicap 20-38.Among an array of golfers expected to participate in the event includes Michael Ben-George, the immediate past president of the GGA, Mike Ezan, Dan Dennis, Charles Tabi, Matthias Dorfe and Paul List, all of the Achimota Golf Club.Mona Myles-Lamptey, Clara Price, Adelaide Owusu-Adjapong, Florence Etwi-Barimah and Victoria Adjei would also battle each other for supremacy in the Ladies Section.Professor George Ntsiful, President of the GGA would perform the official opening ceremony on Friday, May 1.Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minister of Youth and Sports is expected to grace the occasion.Source: GNA
