President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday expressed the Government's determination to make sure that Ghana became adequately prepared and equipped with best practices for efficient management of the country's oil revenue.
He said between now and the time the oil would begin to be pumped out of the discovered oilfields, they would want to see the human resource in the industry from the lower levels through the middle to decision-making, well developed so that, "we would not be found wanting".
President Kufuor said it was in the light of this that the country was ready to co-operate with and to benefit from Norway's acclaimed expertise in the sector.
He was speaking when a Norwegian delegation led by Mr Tore Nedred, the Ambassador to Ghana, called on him at the Castle, Osu.
The delegation made up of oil industry experts was in the country to hold extensive discussions with Government officials and technical personnel in the sector on ways for possible co-operation in the management of Ghana's oil.
Ghana's celebrated Diplomat, the former Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Mr Kofi Annan, played an important part in arranging for this cooperation with the Scandinavian country.
Mr Nedred said the delegation was impressed with the legislation the country had put in place for the sector as well as the quality of its human resource.
He, however, observed that a lot still needed to be done and said Norway, being an important oil producing country, was more than prepared to share its experience and help Ghana to avoid pitfalls.
"There are a lot of opportunities for fruitful co-operation between our two countries," he added.
