The Ghana Rugby Family has embarked on a programme to reach out to potential sponsors to help with the development of the game of Rugby in general, especially with the development of grassroots and youth rugby.
According to the President of Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), Mr. Herbert Mensah, this is a decisive act by the Board following the first ever Ghana Rugby Stakeholder Forum held on 29 August 2014 in Accra to put together ‘Blueprint Project Teams’ to implement the strategies and plans for Ghana Rugby.
“One aspect that is high on the agenda of the Board is the issue of funding of plans and programmes in the light of the bank balance of GHS 224 that the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) inherited on 5 June,” Mr. Mensah said.
Mr. Sidney Yankson, recently appointed Director of Fundraising for Ghana Rugby, has issued a letter which will form the basis to discuss the areas of participation by sponsors as well as to highlight the benefits to potential sponsors.
He also urged interested sponsors to contact the Ghana RFU via its website or by email at info@ghanarugby.org to arrange for a meeting to discuss the way forward.
Model of the letter is published below
Invitation to Sponsor Ghana Rugby
Following our recent discussions herewith a short overview of the opportunities to sponsor Ghana Rugby and enjoy the benefits of wide media exposure and of creating goodwill for your brand.
About Ghana Rugby
The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) was established in 2003 and on 5 June 2014 a Delegates Congress elected a new Board under leadership of Mr. Herbert Mensah, former Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC.
First on the agenda of the new Board was to undertake an assessment of the state of Rugby in Ghana and after consultations with all Rugby stakeholders a Blueprint for Ghana Rugby was presented to the first ever Ghana Rugby Stakeholder Forum on 29 August 2014.
Ghana Rugby Blueprint
The Blueprint sets out an ambitious programme with the first objective being to take Ghana Rugby to be accepted as Full Member of the IRB (International Rugby Board) in 2015. This will also ensure further exposure on an international level and Ghana Rugby intends to enter teams for such coveted events as the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games, not to talk about participation in the many IRB tournaments.
Sponsorship Opportunities
As with all sports globally Ghana Rugby is very much dependent on corporate sponsorships to fund its activities and programmes. Areas of participation include the following:
