Lead Pastor at Dunamis Prayer Army International, Prosper Suglo, has cautioned the Ghana Police Service to be circumspect about how it treats the country's clerics.
“If we silence the Prophets, Ghana will collapse,” he said on Hitz FM’s Daybreak on Thursday.
This was in an attempt to defend the contents of his open letter to Ghana’s Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, via a Facebook post dated October 25.
In his letter, which was inspired by the arrest of Prophet Stephen Akwasi in connection with the prophecy on Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, Prophet Suglo cautioned the IGP over becoming an enemy of God.
After commending Dr Dampare for his efforts in instilling discipline, he wrote, “but Sir arresting Men of God because they prophesied or speak the mind of God will make you the enemy of God.”
Elaborating on his assertions, Prophet Suglo agreed that no prophet is above the law.
But in defence to why some prophets had resorted to public prophecies, he said some artists gave them little to no audience when reached out to, therefore had no other option.
Prophet Suglo said he had personally reached out to three artistes in private about prophecies, but the artists are not humble enough compared to some politicians.
His claim serves as the basis for why he expressed his sentiments, saying, “arresting prophets, keeping them and asking them to provide proof is a big insult”.
Prophet Suglo believes the Ghana Police Service should allow prophets to do their jobs without interference because we cannot “mix carnality and spirituality”.
In concluding his Facebook post, he wrote, “Sir, stop it before it’s too late. Nobody has ever attacked Prophets or Men of God and gone scot-free. Putting them in cells because they prophesied is totally wrong, Sir.”
Prophet Stephen Akwasi, popularly known as Jesus Ahuofe following his arrest, has been granted bail after being remanded into police custody for several days.
