Atsu Nyamedi won Ghana's first medal in the ongoing Africa Senior Athletics Championship in South Africa.
Nyamedi won silver in the decathlon competiton and could have won gold medal but had a few results events below average performances. Those events were in the 100 m race, long jump, pole vault and javelin.
IN OTHER EVENTS...
Sprinter Gemma Acheampong placed 6th in 100m final with 11.49secs.
Vivian Mills and Akua Obeng-Akrofi qualified for semi-final race yesterday in the 400m but did not advance to final after both runners were not ranked in top 8 coming.

However Vivian Mills(pictured above) performed much below her season best. Speculating there may have been undisclosed injury.
MEDAL HOPEFULS
Samson Larry advanced to the 800m final after finishing second in his semi final race. Larry becomes the first Ghanaian to reach the final of an 800m African Championship final after Kennedy Osei in the late 1990's.
Men's 4X100m (all local-based runners and pictured below) advanced to final with a time of 40.73secs.The 4X100m relay team consist of Opoku Kwame Steven, Desmond Aryee, Martin Owusu-Antwi, Shadrack Opoku-Agyemang.

Women's 4X100m heats was cancelled hence 2 teams dropped out leaving 8 teams. Therefore there will be a straight final in Durban.
After finishing 6th in the women's 100m final yesterday, Gemma Acheampong has set her sight on helping the relay team pick gold.
