One Ghanaian is reportedly dead and 150 others are in a fix after their attempt to cross the high seas into Italy ended abortively. The stranded travellers who have been placing calls to Joy FM’s newsrooms, say they went through the desert and spent two weeks in Libya in an attempt cross the high seas to Italy unnoticed. However, luck eluded them and were arrested by the Libyan navy on the high seas. They described their present condition in Libyan detention as appalling and dehumanizing. Not knowing what could possibly happen to them, they have been sending distress calls and appealing to officials in Ghana to come to their aid, since efforts to get support from Ghana’s Embassy in Libya have not been successful.“We apologize to you people to help us so that we can come home because the situation we are in now is very difficult. Some people are sick and cannot do anything; others have contracted strange diseases. One is even dead.” A detainee told Joy news on Wednesday.
