Chairman of the National Peace Council, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has challenged Ghanaians to ensure there is justice in the country’s electoral system ahead of the 2016 general elections.

Rev Prof. Asante says Ghanaians must resist persons who might want to rig the polls, regardless of their status.

“What we  do is to ensure that there is justice in the system that nobody attempts to maneuver to rig the elections”, he said.

His comments come in the wake of the successful elections held in Nigeria in which General Muhammadu Buhari won in what many analysts have said was a historic event.

 Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante said Ghanaians must demand that elections are conducted in a transparent manner.

“If these things are done with transparency I don’t see why we should have problems”, he said.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat and calling his opponent, General Buhari to congratulate him even before the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results.

Rev Prof Asante said all politicians must take a cue from President Jonathan’s show of statesmanship.

General Buhari was last week announced winner of the tightly contested Nigerian elections which was postponed over fears of a possible Boko Haram attack.

Although many anticipated that the elections will be interrupted by the violence and poll rigging, international observers say the process was generally free and fair.
