Ghanaians in the United Kingdom are kicking against a controversial advertising campaign in London boroughs with large ethnic minority populations which is urging illegal immigrants to go home voluntarily.Although the pilot scheme is currently targeting London boroughs with large ethnic minority, UK media are suggesting the scheme could be launched nationwide.Ghanaians living in the United Kingdom say it is xenophobic and racist even though no specific nationality has been singled out.They say the policy amount to a violation of their human rights and its aimed at pushing them out of the country.The campaign aimed at encouraging voluntary deportation of illegal immigrants has also received numerous condemnation from some UK government officials.A member of the Liberal Democrat Vince Cable, has described the policy as "stupid and offensive".Even among the Liberal Democrats, there has been a controversy over the policy.UK media have reported that the Prime Minister's spokesman had said the campaign was approved by the Home Office, which includes a Lib Dem minister, Jeremy Browne.But his claims have been strongly denied by the party. According to the The Independent, a Liberal Democrat spokesman said: "We did not sign it off. No Liberal Democrats were involved."The large billboards carrying the warning "go home or face arrest" have been driven round six London boroughs on advertising vans, complemented by handbills.
