Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, Dr Samuel Amo Tobbin, says that Ghana's Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) is among the best on the African continent.
According to him, his company's ability to supply its drugs to other countries in the subregion is made possible through the support of the FDA.
Speaking on JoyNews' AM show, Dr Tobbin said that “Our FDA is on top. From the very first FDA CEO to all those guys that have passed through FDA, we have gotten excellent CEOs”.
He stated that, despite their personal conflict, Dr Stephen Opuni did not perform badly.
This comment follows Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL)'s win of a court case against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) over accusations of importing fake drugs into the country.

In 2013, under Dr Opuni's leadership, the FDA had confiscated Tobinco's imported products, claiming they were unwholesome.
But an Accra High Court, presided over by Her Ladyship, Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, exonerated the Company in a ruling dated July 29, 2024, contrary to claims of wrongdoing by then Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni.
However, Dr Tobbin acknowledged that Dr Opuni was efficient in approving documents on time.
“He works like a businessman, though he is a medical doctor. When you send your things to him, registration and things, we were getting our things back on time. What I know about him is that even at midnight you go to the office, he is signing documents.”
