The board of Ghana International Airline says it is helpless about the current crisis plaguing the national carrier.
According to the board chair the situation at this point requires the intervention of government which is the majority shareholder.
GIA has not been able to fly for months now and the workers have also not been paid for three months.
In an interview with Bernard Saibu, sit-in host of Joy FM's Super Morning Show, the Board Chair Albert Botchway agrees that government cannot be held responsible for the workers’ plight.
But he also insists the current board cannot be held responsible because there has not been any proper management in place.
“For a number of years about four years that this company has been running, audited accounts have not been signed so how do you check the authenticity of what they have been doing,” he quizzed.
He blamed the previous board under the erstwhile NPP for not doing enough to salvage the carrier from liquidation.
Asked if the current board should be dissolved, Mr. Botchway said that can only be answered by the government that put it in place.
He could not also answer if Ghana still deserves to own a national carrier.
