The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has given the Ministry of Health a one-week ultimatum to provide its members with better conditions of service.
The Association says its members will be left with no other option but resign en masse if the deadline is not met.
The GMA also intends to hit the streets on Republic Day July 1 to protest government’s inaction.
Chairman of the Greater Accra branch of the GMA, Dr Ernest York says it was improper for doctors and other health officers to work without conditions of service and this is the time to call for one.
He noted that the Association was close to signing one but “at the advent of the Single Spine Pay Policy, that was scuttled, we were told that certain aspects of the condition of service document will be found in the policy and that we should hold on.”
“We have done that for several years and nothing has happened and we thought that this is the time to demand it”, he added.
Dr Yorke said if by June 30 the doctors and health service providers do not have conditions of service, they would "advice" themselves.
He said they will do all they can to ensure that their request is attended to,
“Let everybody be aware that this time we are not going back on our word”, he stressed.
