The Ghana National Association of Certificated Counsellors (GNACC) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Focus on Sickle Cell Foundation (FoSCel) to collaborate on nationwide Sickle Cell awareness, counselling support, and genotype education.
The partnership, signed during GNACC’s National Conference in Kumasi on Thursday, November 21, marks a step toward reducing preventable sickle cell births and providing much-needed psychosocial support to people living with the condition.
Speaking at the event, the Founder of FoSCel, Amos Andoh, highlighted the urgent need for stronger awareness across Ghana.
“Every child born with Sickle Cell could have been prevented through one simple action: knowing your genotype before marriage or childbirth. With GNACC on board, we can now reach more young couples, students, families, and communities with accurate education and counselling,” he said.
GNACC counsellors will support FoSCel outreach programs with professional counselling services for Sickle Cell warriors and their families.

Both organisations will run joint awareness campaigns in schools, churches, mosques, universities, and communities across all regions.
They will collaborate on genotype education, mental health support, research, and policy advocacy, including efforts to integrate sickle cell education into Ghana’s national curriculum.
FoSCel will provide health education materials, support outreach logistics, and coordinate community-based activities nationwide.
GNACC leadership expressed their commitment to the partnership, emphasising the need to protect future generations and support individuals struggling with the emotional and social impact of Sickle Cell disease.
This collaboration is expected to positively impact thousands of young people, couples, families, and Sickle Cell warriors across Ghana.
