President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has downplayed allegations by Deborah Acquah over unfilled promises made to her after the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
In an interview with Joy Sports, the long jumper revealed Mr Nunoo Mensah had promised to get her support to treat her Achilles injury following her involvement at the games.
Acquah won bronze for the country in Birmingham despite competing with an injury. However, she alleged she never got the promised support.

Responding to the claims by Acquah during Game Plan on Friday, May 17, the GOC President said he wasn't the one who convinced her to compete with an injury.
"I met her together with Mr Karl Tuffour and then she told me she had been injured for some time now...but she wouldn't even have come to the competition or she came to the competition and competed on injury. It means I am not the one who had convinced her to come to Birmingham," he said.
"We (GOC) don't own the athletes or don't control their day-to-day or whatever they do outside international games."
Quizzed on what ensued between himself and the athlete regarding the injury, Nunoo Mensah added, "My conversation with Deborah when she said she was injured, I said 'after the competition come to Ghana. It's likely that those who won medals will meet the president.'
"When we came I raised that up to the Minister...she came to Ghana alright. The meeting with the Presidency for medal winners never happened but we made sure that whatever money was due her for winning medal was given to her. At the time the money was ready she had left. I called her and she said she had asked someone to collect it.
"The other promise I made to Deborah was that I was going to put her on Olympic Scholarship...which I did. Deborah is currently on a GOC SCholarship where she gets $750 a month since after I met her."
