The Member Parliament(MP) of Odododiodio constituency Nii Lantey Vanderpuije says President John Dramani Mahama is committed to his promise of putting up a boxing gym to develop the sport at grass root.
President Mahama on a tour of the Greater Accra region somewhere in October promised the town of Bukom a modern gym to help develop the sport.
Meanwhile, there have been other concerns about where the Gym will be situated as the town itself looks cluttered.
Nii Lantey Vanderpuaye explains the Gym will be constructed but, it will delay after engineers contracted for the job suggested that putting up the boxing gym in Bukom will not be ideal.
“We have had a problem with site, all the site that were chosen were not conducive according to the technical people and engineers so there was this consideration that lets take it outside Bukom environs,” said Nii Lantey
“The most obvious place is the Kwame Nkrumah circle area or the former holy gardens so the engineers preferred we wait for the completion of the overpass so they will know how to site it.
“There has been a discussion between myself and the Sports minister, we are still exploring the possibility of siting it in our area, i will do everything in my power to have it in my area, the president is committed to it and funds have been made available for it.”
