Government is expected to soon take over the PSC Tema Shipyard and Dry Dock Company.
The Transport Ministry is working out modalities for government to buy back the 60 percent majority stake which was sold to a Malaysian Company in 1996.
The decision to take over the dry dock follows a recent audit report which revealed the company has been completely run down since the Malaysian firm took over.
The audit report showed grave financial malfeasance in which top public officials were fingered.
Public Affairs Manager at the Transport Ministry, Kweku Sersah-Johnson, explained government must take over the facility to ensure it receives a fresh breath of life.
PSC Tema Shipyard has been in the news in recent times but for the wrong reasons.
Workers of the company have, for years, been up in arms with management over disparities in remuneration.
Meanwhile the Tema District Council of Labour has hailed the government decision to take over the dry dock company.
Chairman of the Council, Wilson Agana, told Joy News government’s approach towards the facility has been a “dilly-dallying” one, hence the company’s current state.
