The Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has inspected ongoing construction at the National Homeownership Fund (NHF) housing sites at Shai Hills and Tema Community 22, as the government prepares to open enrollment for prospective homeowners.
At the Shai Hills NHF Estate, construction of 50 detached units, comprising two- and four-bedroom homes, is nearing completion. Mr Adjei explained that the project is about 98 per cent complete, following steady progress over recent months.
Work is also advancing at the NHF Estate at Tema Community 22, Phase III, which comprises 129 two- and three-bedroom units, currently 95 per cent complete.

“The houses are almost 95 and 98 per cent completed, meaning we can start signing agreements with people to secure a unit, either through rent-to-own arrangements or via NHF-supported mortgage schemes established with the banks,” Mr Adjei stated.
The inspections come ahead of the official commissioning of both projects, scheduled for the end of March 2026.
As part of activities leading up to the launch, the NHF will host a two-day Housing Fair from Wednesday, 4 March to Thursday, 5 March 2026, at the premises of the former Gender Ministry. The fair will bring together prospective homeowners, estate developers, mortgage providers, and other stakeholders in the built environment.

Organisers say participants will have the opportunity to explore financing options, engage directly with financial institutions, and receive guidance on pathways to homeownership under the NHF initiative.
Enrollment for the affordable housing units is expected to begin in earnest following the fair, allowing qualified applicants to secure homes under the NHF programme.
