The government of Ghana has expressed its intention to partner Canada in finding a solution to graduate unemployment in the country.
President Mahama says though the country is making gains regarding the economy, it is not reflecting in solving employment situation in the country, Joy News’ presidential affairs correspondent Seth Kwame Boateng reports.
In a joint news conference with visiting Governor-General of Canada Right Honorable David Johnston at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday, President Mahama says some universities in the country will be made to partner universities in Canada to achieve this.
He said the country would also tap into the experience of Canada in the energy sector.
On his part, Governor-General of Canada David Johnston was happy about his visit to the country and promised to help strengthen the relationship between the two nations.
He lauded the peaceful atmosphere in the country, noting that Ghana has been able to create an enabling environment for business, and was sure Canadian investors would be delighted to invest in the country.
The Governor-General will visit Kumasi to see at first hand the impact of the Canadian international development agency's involvement in an agric research project on maize at the Crops Research Institute.
Mr. Johnston is on a four day visit to the country before he continues to Botswana and South Africa.
Later, President John Mahama inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on Illegal Mining at the Flagstaff House led by the Lands and Mines Minister Alhaji Inusah Fuseini.
The taskforce is expected to look at the issue of galamsey activities in the country and find a way of managing illegal mining which has claimed numerous lives in the country.
