In a crucial match-week 33 game of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics played out a goalless draw, further deepening their relegation worries.
Both teams needed a win to improve their chances of avoiding relegation. Hearts of Oak began the first half strongly, maintaining possession but struggling to create meaningful goal-scoring opportunities.
Great Olympics defended resolutely and sought to counter-attack but failed to capitalize on their chances.
A controversial moment occurred at the end of the first half when referee Robert Musey blew the whistle for the break as Hearts of Oak appeared to be in a promising scoring position following a mistake by Great Olympics' goalkeeper Benjamin Asare. This decision led to protests from Hearts of Oak's fans and technical team, but the score remained goalless at halftime.
In the second half, Great Olympics’ Ebenezer Sekyere came close to scoring, narrowly missing the top corner. The best chance of the game came in the 65th minute when Cisse Kasim of Hearts of Oak was put through on goal but was denied by an excellent save from the goalkeeper, preserving the clean sheet.
Chances were scarce as the game progressed, with Hearts of Oak maintaining dominance but unable to find a breakthrough. In the 89th minute, Great Olympics had a golden opportunity to secure the victory from a corner but failed to convert, resulting in a goalless draw.
This draw leaves Hearts of Oak in 14th place with 42 points, just one point above 16th placed Great Olympics.
In their final games of the season, Hearts of Oak will travel to face Bechem United, while Great Olympics will host Real Tamale United.
