Power distributor, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is asking Ghanaians to switch off high energy consuming appliances in order to guarantee stable power supply during the world cup period.

A statement from GRIDCo, and signed by Albert Quainoo Head of Public Relations, says switching off air conditioners, deep freezers and non-essential lights during the evenings would save an estimated 100 megawatts of electricity for many more people to enjoy world cup matches with minimum load shedding.

POWER SUPPLY SITUATION

Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) appeals to the general public to switch off high energy consuming appliances such as air conditioners, deep freezers and non-essential lights during the evenings ( 6 pm — midnight) to help conserve energy during the World Cup matches.

Public compliance with this appeal will make available an estimated 100MW of electricity for many more people to watch the football matches with minimum load shedding.

There are on-going repair and maintenance works on some of the VRA and TICo thermal generators at Aboadze that has resulted in the shortfall in power supply to consumers.

Given the generation constraints and the general public interest in the world cup matches, we all need to strive to conserve energy to keep the power system efficient.
