Guinea-Bissau has reaffirmed its strong support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region.

The position was reiterated on Tuesday by Guinea-Bissau’s Foreign Minister, João Bernardo Vieira, during a press briefing in Rabat after talks with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

According to João Bernardo Vieira, Guinea-Bissau maintains a “firm and constant” position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over all its territory, including the Sahara region.

He also reaffirmed his country’s backing for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, describing it as the “only credible and realistic solution” to the regional dispute.

The Guinea-Bissau foreign minister further welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025.

According to him, the resolution endorses Morocco’s autonomy plan within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty as “the only serious, credible, and lasting basis” for achieving a political solution to the dispute over the Sahara.
