The National Hajj Committee is facing difficulties airlifting pilgrims to Mecca.
The committee says passports of pilgrims in Accra have been mixed up with non-pilgrims.
“It has become difficult for us to be able to locate those passports of the would-be pilgrims," Director of Communication of the Hajj Committee, Alidu Mahama told Joy News' Beatrice Adu.
He explained that his committee has been liaising with the Foreign Ministry and the passport office to execute a smooth pilgrimage and had completed with pilgrims from Kumasi, Tamale and the northern parts of the country.
According to him, data of pilgrims in Accra to the passport office came rather late culminating in the mix-up.
'Black passports' the type being faced out for the bio-metric ones had to be issued to the pilgrims, but that, he said has rather compounded the problem.
According to him, some pilgrims now have two passports- the black and the bio-metric one creating unnecessary delays.
He said all agents and stakeholders are working hard to resolve the problem.
The organisation of Hajj in Ghana has been problematic over the years with pilgrims left at the mercy of the weather, and in some cases denied their wish to embark on the pilgrimage.
Last year however marked a refreshing departure, with the Hajj committee managing a smooth organisation of pilgrims to Mecca and followed it up with a promise 'achieve' a similar feat in 2010.
