Education Minister and Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu on Wednesday, July 22, hosted newly inducted UDS Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammed Muniru to discuss the university’s future growth and transformation.
A key agenda item was accelerating the development of the UDS Yendi Campus.

Haruna Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deploy additional infrastructure to complete the campus, saying it would honour the late Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II.
The Ya-Na’s “lifelong passion and advocacy” were instrumental to the campus’s establishment, the minister noted.
The two also discussed plans to expand the UDS Teaching Hospital. The goal: increase the training of medical doctors and strengthen healthcare delivery across the Savannah Ecological Zone and northern Ghana.
Mr. Iddrisu further highlighted the need to amend the recently enacted UDS Act to review the composition of the university's Governing Council.
The change, he said, would ensure it reflects the new legal framework and supports effective institutional governance.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu met new UDS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Muniru on July 22 to chart the university’s growth.
Top of the agenda: fast-tracking the UDS Yendi Campus. Iddrisu pledged more infrastructure to complete it in honour of the late Dagbon Overlord Ndan Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II, who championed the campus.
They also discussed expanding UDS Teaching Hospital to train more doctors and boost healthcare in northern Ghana.
Mr. Iddrisu added that the new UDS Act needs amendment to review the Governing Council’s composition for better governance.
