The Head of the West Africa Division for GIZ, Mrs. Ella Schieber, has visited the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) to familiarise herself with GIZ-supported initiatives to the institution.
Her visit forms part of her tour of selected West African countries, since assuming the role in September this year.
Air Commodore Julius Dzamefe, Deputy Commandant of KAIPTC, received Mrs. Schieber, on behalf of the Commandant and the Executive Management Committee.
He expressed gratitude to the German Government for their valuable support to the Centre, which has strengthened governance and institutional processes, as well as the delivery of relevant training courses in Peace Support Operations to participants from all over the continent and beyond.
The KAIPTC team delivered a detailed presentation on specific areas of support by GIZ, and its contribution to steering the Centre towards institutional sustainability.
Madam Schieber praised the Centre for delivering education, training and research in Peace Support Operations and contributing to meet the dynamic demands of multidimensional Peacekeeping in West Africa and Africa as a whole.
She noted that there is rising competition in the Peacekeeping training arena in Africa, and sought ideas on the Centre’s actions to remain competitive. She encouraged the Centre to ensure effective implementations of its overall mandate to create the foundation for further support by the German government in the future.
The German Government, through the GIZ, has been supporting the KAIPTC since 2004.
