Hearts of Oak midfielder Salifu Ibrahim has been sacked from the club's training camp amid a dispute with the club's administration over his contract situation.
Ibrahim is reportedly dissatisfied with his treatment by the club in the just-ended season and is currently unwilling to sign a new deal, as his agent, Benedict Asiedu, explained in an interview with Kessben FM.
"It's about contract extension. We couldn't find an agreement because the player is hurt about certain things," he said.
"The issues are that Hearts wanted to sell him to Nsoatreman FC without informing him, sidelining him for no reason. A new coach comes in, he plays him, and they tell the coach not to use him, and all that. If there is time for him to extend his contract, it will be difficult."
Asiedu claimed that two Hearts of Oak board members, Alhaji Akambi and Vincent Odotei Sowah, were responsible for the player's mistreatment.
"Only Akambi and Odotei can explain why they were doing that."
Alhaji Akambi was quick in dispelling this claim, however.
"The coach called me on the phone to tell me that he sacked some players including Salifu Ibrahim, that's what he told me. So when he has been told to go, what has that got to do with me and Odotei?," he told Kessben FM.
He added that the source of the disagreement is the player's wage demands, as Ibrahim is demanding a pay of $2,500 after taxes, while the club quoted the same price but before taxes.
"The figure he wants at net salary, I told him that we can only pay that as gross. I was waiting for him to get back to me but he was insisting on what he wanted. Asiedu called me after the player scored against Nsoatreman and told me that for anything less than $2,500, the boy would not play again. So I asked him, 'Is he the only player that will play?'"
Ibrahim joined the Phobians in 2021 and has since won five trophies with the club, including the Ghana Premier League in his first season, in which he also won the league MVP award.
It is yet to be seen if this disagreement will lead to Ibrahim's permanent departure from the club.
