A Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak Apigi Afenu has revealed that the club spent an initial amount of 800,000 cedis on players’ recruitment during this season’s transfer window.
Apigi Afenu made the revelation on Joy Sports Link following criticism by some supporters over the quality of players recruited for the club for the 2012-13 premier league season.
“During the second transfer window in January, we made available 800,000 GHC cedis for player recruitment. 500,000 GHC was paid in cash while the remainder which is 300,000 GHC is still outstanding”.
“We did an acquisition with the view that will strengthen the squad and probably turn the fortunes of the club. We made a little progress but unfortunately we run into agency problems where we had disappointments with some of the recruitments that were undertaken to the extent that a lot of those players had to be transferred to other clubs because they were not up to Hearts’ standards”.
He added that, with the right direction Hearts of Oak is embarking now, the club is on the verge of becoming one of the best in some years to come.
“Hearts are well positioned to move forward, set a new paradigm for club management in this country, it will be financially solid, it will have the best infrastructure and trust me some years to come you will see what we would have done.'
