The Volta Regional Director of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs. Thywil Eyra Kpe, has urged stakeholders and parents to help in the fight against child marriage in the country.
Mrs. Thywil Eyra Kpe who gave the advice during a monitoring and sensitization programme of Community Parents’ Advocacy (COPAGS) at Kpeyiborme in the South Dayi District noted that there is the urgent need for the involvement of the stakeholders and parents in the fight against forced marriage on children of school going age.
Mrs. Kpe said with the support from parents and stakeholders, a lot can be done in the eradication of child marriage.
"No girl child must be married before 18 years because the girl child has dreams that must be realised and everyone must be involved in the initiative to stop child marriage,” Mrs. Thywil Kpe said.
Mrs. Kpe noted that it is critical for the girl child to be well educated for the development of the nation hence the urgent need for all to help in addressing the issue of child marriage.

The assembly man for the Todome Kpalime electoral area, Mr. Senaye Eric said child marriage has made it difficult for the girl child to have access to quality education, a situation which has contributed immensely to teenage pregnancies in many communities.
He noted that the country would be able to fight the menace with support from all stakeholders and parents.
He urged parents to invest in the education of their children especially the girl child for a better Ghana.
Attendees at the programme appealed to government to critically look at the provision of some very basic needs for the girls especially the sanitary pads for those whose parents may not able to afford in order to keep the girls in school.
