The weekly review show on Joy Prime, Sports Zone, reviewed, in detail, the performance of Chris Hughton’s Black Stars in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying doubleheader against Angola.
Host Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo and regular guests, Daniel Koranteng and Sitsofe Philip Atsrim, also discussed the Black Meteors’ 2023 AFCON qualifying 1-1 first leg draw in Algeria and the Ghana Premier League title race.
Joy Sports’ Daniel Koranteng teed off the show by singing a hymn in celebration of the performance of Jordan Ayew’s performance over the two games. He believes the Crystal Palace forward has vindicated him for always advocating for his inclusion in any Black Stars squad at the moment.
The discussions started with Ghana Premier League action, looking at Hearts of Oak’s 3-0 mauling at Karela United and Asante Kotoko’s defeat at home to Medeama SC, and, subsequent, sacking of Seydou Zerbo.
Sitso believes the current squad of the Porcupine Warriors was built by management and not the head coach, adding that the Burkinabe was not the problem.
He also said Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Richmond Ayi, did not give the Ghana Premier League any great publicity when he walked out on the pitch with white substance covering his face.
On the Black Meteors draw in Algeria, Daniel is of the opinion that the team has great individual talents and not a perfect unit that can combine to great effect.
Daniel did a detailed analysis of the two Black Stars games, concluding that, the national team now has a perfect squad that can win games from the bench in a long time.
Sitso agreed with Daniel Baba Rahman could still get the look in when he returns to the Black Stars squad because Gideon Mensah has not proved he’s Ghana’s best player at left-back over the two games.
Sitso reemphasized his earlier submission in previous episodes of the show that Mohammed Kudus should be played in forward positions and not as a number 10.
Ghana is ready for life without captain Andre Ayew – Sitso
Lawrence Ati-Zigi is one of the biggest winners of the March international break while Gideon Mensah hasn’t done a lot to cement his place as first choice left-back, according to Sitso.
Fentuo asserted that Ghana has failed Felix Afena-Gyan by not taking him to the 2022 World Cup in a #SportsZone editorial.
