Luv FM, a leading radio station in the Ashanti region, has successfully organised a blood donation drive, drawing hundreds of voluntary donors from communities.
The event, held at the station’s premises, was aimed at boosting the region's blood supply amidst ongoing concerns about scarcity.
Health authorities present at the event underscored the critical importance of such initiatives. The demand for blood in hospitals across the Ashanti Region continues to outpace supply.

This shortage often leads to critical situations where patients, including accident victims, women in labour, and individuals with severe anemia, face life-threatening delays in receiving the necessary transfusions
The Head of Transfusion Medicine at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr Leslie Osei, said the hospital uses 80 pints of blood averagely a day.
The Luv FM event, which saw both first-time and regular donors participating, is part of a broader effort to address these challenges.
“We use blood and also supply blood to other hospitals, so it’s important to shore up the blood bank. This blood donation came at the right time, and I believe it will last us more than a week. We’re grateful to Luv FM for this initiative and their continued support to KATH,” Dr Leslie Osei said.

Volunteers were also educated on the process of blood donation, its benefits, and the vital role it plays in healthcare.
Many expressed their satisfaction in being able to contribute to such a life-saving cause.
“This the 20th time I’m donating blood, and I keep coming because it’s rewarding. I believe I will be able to save somebody in critical need of blood,” Gabriel Agyemang, a blood donor said.
Francis, a first-time donor said, “I decided to donate my blood for the first time to support the blood bank, and I feel fulfilled”
Luv FM’s commitment to making a difference reflects the power of collective action in addressing critical healthcare needs.
