Hungary has reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and endorsed the Autonomy Plan proposed in 2007 as “the most credible basis” for resolving the dispute.
This position was formalised in a joint statement issued following a meeting on Wednesday in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.
The statement highlighted both countries’ backing of the UN-led political process and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to resolve the Sahara issue in alignment with Security Council resolutions.
Morocco and Hungary underscored their shared commitment to promoting stability, security, and peace in their respective regions.
They reiterated their adherence to the principles of peaceful conflict resolution and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.
Hungary’s position adds to the growing international momentum, recognised by the latest UN Security Council resolution, which commends efforts to advance a peaceful solution to the Sahara issue.
