The government of Hungary and Egypt have agreed to assist the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
The hospital remains the biggest referral hospital in the Bono, Bono-East, and Ahafo Regions.
This was made known by the Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, Tamás Endre Fehér, after paying a working visit to the facility to learn firsthand areas the hospital would require assistance.
Ambassador Fehér, in an interview with Mark Abisah on Suncity Radio in Sunyani, disclosed that the Prime Ministers of Hungary and Egypt - countries with a lot of economic collaborations - decided in 2021 to support one country in Africa with some medical supplies.

The Ambassador, who began his official duty in Ghana in September 2021, explained that upon further deliberations and discussions with Ghana’s Minister of Health, the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani was selected as the beneficiary.
“We are doing this project with the Hungarian side providing state-of-the-art medical equipment made in Hungary while the Egyptian side is providing medical experts including doctors and nurses”, the diplomat revealed.
“The purpose of my visit to Sunyani today was to see the needs here, to identify those areas where the regional hospital needs assistance, and also urge the medical director to provide a list of items the hospital needs that the Hungarians can supply for them”, he added.
Ambassador Fehér observed that the hospital is in very good shape. He, however, stated that some of the equipment is old though still functional.
“The hospital is aiming to increase its capacity, so that is why they need new equipment”, he stated, and further hoped they would provide the equipment as soon as they get the list of items needed.

The Medical Director of the Regional Hospital in Sunyani, Dr. Cardinal Newton, who led the Ambassador and his team around the various departments of the hospital revealed that the hospital does not have an MRI Machine of its own and always had to refer patients who required such care to either Techiman or Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
He said the situation has been a cause of heavy financial burden on patients. He said, together with the management, they would provide the list of items as required to help speed up the assistance.
The management and staff of the hospital recently said the lack of modern and adequate machines at the facility is affecting the delivery of proper and efficient healthcare services to the people when the Ghana Health Service Council members paid a working visit to the facility recently.
And the provision of medical equipment by Hungary and Egypt will go a long way to help the hospital provide the expected healthcare services.
Tamás Endre Fehér earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Bono Regional Minister, Madam Justina Owusu Banahene, at her office.
