The former head of the Korle-Bu Cardiothoracic Centre, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng is claiming he has been banned from entering the unit. The renowned heart surgeon said he went to the Cardio Centre to pick some belongings but was prevented by some security men who claim they were acting on orders from above. He revealed this in an exclusive interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday. Professor Frimpong-Boateng was on Thursday August 4, 2011 relieved of his post with immediate effect as honorary director of the National Cardiothoracic Center as per a letter signed by then Health Minister Joseph Yiele Chireh. His dismissal was met with protestations from the general public with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) citing political vindictiveness on the part of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) being at play. Recounting his ordeal on Ekosii Sen, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he went to the Cardio centre for some personal file to enable him work at the Ghana Heart Foundation but was prevented by the security men who told him they were acting on the orders of authorities at the centre. "The security men told me they have been ordered to ensure i don't take anything out from the Cardiothoracic Center" he added. He expressed shock at the development and wondered why such a directive could be issued by people he trained on the job. The renowned surgeon stated that he had reported the incident at the Korle Bu police station to investigate the matter to ensure the culprits are brought to book. Prof.Frimpong-Boateng indicated that until his dismissal, he was discussing with the Ministry of Health some pertinent issues affecting the health sector for an improvement. The heart surgeon added that he is not bitter at the action of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) but will continue to play an active role in the health issue of the country. Prof.Frimpong-Boateng who is also the Chairman of the NPP Health Committee bemoaned the current status of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and promised an Akufo-Addo government will restore confidence in the scheme. The NPP man who is Ghana's first locally-based Cardiothoracic surgeon said the health sector needs revitalization to meet the growing health needs of Ghanaians. Prof. Frimpong-Boateng urged the electorate to vote massively for the NPP to transform Ghana.
