The President of the National House of Chiefs has urged media houses in Ghana to blacklist politicians whose comments seek to incite violence ahead of the November 2016 polls.

Professor Naa John Nabila said if the media ignore such violent utterances of the politicians they would be forced to change their words.

He explained this is necessary to ensure that the nation is saved from any form of violence in the pre and post-November election.

“If there are utterances meant to fuel violence ignore them. If you don’t publish it nobody will read about it,” he said.

Professor Nabila’s comments come in the wake of a poll conducted by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) which found communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the leading politicians in the use of offensive comments.

This is the second time the party’s representatives have been cited for using abusive language. According to the report, NPP representatives made 11 unsubstantiated allegations and 8 comments endorsing violence whilst the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) recorded zero in unsubstantiated comments and one being comments endorsing violence.

Speaking to Joy News, Professor Nabila said “Ghana as of now is one whole country and we all belong to that land of Ghana.”

He said the country does not need anybody tear it apart because s/he wants to become the president of the land.

“If you do who are you going to rule?” he asked adding “If you take an example from our sister countries when there was chaos, those people who wanted to be president were on the run all the time.”

He entreated politicians to desist from inciting violence ahead of the elections saying “there is no need for us to have chaos in order to have a president.”
