In pictures: Bahamians come ‘home’ to trace the roots of Junkanoo festival in Ghana

History was made when five citizens from the Caribbean Island of Bahamas returned to the Western Regional town of Owusua (Busua) to be initiated back into the Ahanta tribe.

They are members of the Sankofa Flamingo Foundation which is travelling around the world to document the true history and story of the Junkanoo Festival- the most popular street dance festival in the Caribbean and parts of America.

They were received by a high level of chiefs and queen mothers of Ahanta at the palace of the Ahanta Traditional Council in the serene beach town.
