The Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana is worried about the violent incidents that characterised the just ended voters' registration exercise.

Nana Kwabena Aborampah, the Leader for the CDD-Ghana’s Local & Urban Governance and Security Sector Governance team described those incidents as dangerous developments with the tendency of derailing the democratic gains of the country.

He was speaking at a round table discussion for civil society organisations, the Attorney General's office, Defense Ministry and the Ghana Police Service on measures needed to ensure a violent-free electoral and political environment through the enforcement of existing laws.

The program was on the theme 'Let's crack the whip'.

Going into the 2020 general elections, Mr Aborampah warned that if the major violent acts like shooting, stabbing, and burning of property are not nipped in the bud, the country may witness more deaths and vandalism of state and political party owned property as unfolded in some constituencies.

DCOP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba who represented the IGP said, threat analysis carried out by the police administration has successfully led to the identification of hotspots in some regions.

He served notice, the police is ready to face off with unscrupulous minds who may want to perpetrate violence before during and after the 2020 elections.

Operationally, DCOP Gariba described the just ended registration exercise as successful, and has put them in a better position to maintain law and order in December when the 2020 electioneering is climaxed.

He, however, warned, vigilantism remains a potential threat to the peace of the country and called on political parties to stay away from soliciting the services of vigilante groups for protection.
