A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed doubts about Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s chances of winning the 2024 presidential election.

He asserted that Mr Kyerematen cannot become president if he contests as an independent candidate.

Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also questioned Mr Kyerematen's claim of having the best interest of the Ghanaian youth at heart.

Speaking on JoyFM, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe explained that when Mr Kyerematen announced his resignation from the NPP, he indicated establishing a movement which will be led and powered by the youth of Ghana.

However, he expressed disbelief about whether the Ghanaian youth actually supports the vision and the movement established by Mr Kyerematen.

“No, no, and no again. What even interested me was the fact that he was calling on the youth of Ghana. He says the movement belongs to the youth. Now, if you have the minds of the youth, they would have seen it long ago,” he said.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasised that the former Trade and Industry Minister’s silence on issues affecting the youth belies his claim of having the youth at heart.

“Even when the youth was attacked recently, did he come out to say anything, no?

“When Barker-Vormawor was attacked and put in prison, he was a cabinet minister, what did he say about it,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe quizzes.

The NPP stalwart added that the party has failed to address the country’s economic challenges.

According to him, the NPP has placed communicators in various media outlets to defend the “wrongs” of the government.

“Our party was not like this and as I speak now, all the senior people in the party, the elderly people in the party are mute. I know what is happening that we have aligned Akufo-Addo to One District One Factory as his own personal property, how.

“The motto of the party is Development in Freedom, without freedom, there’s no NPP,” he stressed.

Commenting on the silence of the elderly members of the NPP regarding the party issues, he mentioned a former government official of the party, Kwame Pianim as one of the few who had spoken out.

He suggested that the elders might have their reasons for staying silent but emphasised that he was not afraid to express his concerns.

“I’m not afraid of Akufo-Addo, no because Akufo-Addo made me understand that the fight for this country is a fight for freedom and that was why I was close to him but I have seen that he himself doesn’t believe in freedom.

“If he believes in freedom, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” he stressed.
