The Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana has inducted 40 engineers into the institution to learn from best practices from experienced engineers.
According to the Institute, there is a need to work on the image of the engineering profession to scale up the quality of the engineering professionals.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, a senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and a member of the institution, Dr Ebenezer Ankomah Gyamera, called on engineers to seek counsel before they embark on a project to protect the image of engineers in Ghana.
He said many roads and structures that have been constructed and supervised by some engineers in the county do not stand the test of time, a situation that has become a dent on many engineers across the country.
“It’s very common to see many roads that were constructed in recent times, developing potholes and buildings having pronounced structural defects,” he stated.
Dr Gyamera says such situations have an across-the-board effect on engineers in the country.
Immediate Past President of the Institution of Engineers and technology, Emmanuel Kwesi Boadu, advised the inductees to exercise some caution and seek proper counsel before they embark on any project.
He said that the mark of a good engineer is professionalism and candour.
“We are inducting the 40 engineers into our fold to make them ambassadors of our profession. Together, we can carve a new name for ourselves,” he stated.
