The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on parents to prioritise the proper upbringing of their children, stressing the need for families to instil discipline and moral values grounded in Islamic teachings.
Speaking at the annual Dr Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu Ramadan Lectures held at the National Mosque, the minister said parents must spend quality time with their children and guide them in the teachings of Allah so they grow into responsible and disciplined members of society.

According to him, strong family values and good nurturing play a crucial role in building peaceful and secure communities.
He explained that public safety is closely linked to the values instilled in individuals and families, noting that responsible upbringing contributes to social stability and national security.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak also urged Muslim leaders and Zongo chiefs to actively promote peace, security and social responsibility within their communities.
He said traditional and religious leaders have a critical role to play in guiding young people and fostering values such as compassion, justice and discipline.
The Interior Minister further called on community leaders to address issues such as drug abuse, warning that the problem contributes to insecurity in many communities.

“Let us work together to create opportunities and guide our youth towards success,” he said, citing the Prophet’s saying that “seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
Mr Muntaka also stressed the importance of inner peace and collective responsibility in promoting public safety, while highlighting government efforts to address security challenges.
He underscored the role of education and vocational training in empowering Zongo communities, referencing a verse from the Qur’an which states: “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (Suratul Al-Ra’d 13:11).

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, also urged Muslims to abandon evil deeds and remain obedient to the teachings of Allah in order to live in peace.
He offered prayers for Muslims and wished them a blessed Ramadan, expressing hope that the holy month would bring peace, security, prosperity and stability to Ghana.
The event was organised by the National Mosque and the Hudai Foundation in collaboration with the Office of the National Chief Imam.
