The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has received the final report of the Gbenyiri Mediation Committee, set up to address inter-communal tensions between the Lobi/Birifor and Gonja communities in the Savannah Region.
The Committee, constituted in September 2025, was tasked with promoting dialogue, cooperation and peaceful coexistence following clashes in the area.

Its report is expected to provide a roadmap for rebuilding trust, strengthening tolerance, and restoring long-term stability in the affected communities.
Receiving the document, the Minister commended the Committee for its work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations.

He also expressed appreciation to development partners for their support and appealed for continued assistance in rebuilding social cohesion in the Gbenyiri community.
The Committee was chaired by Emmanuel Bombande, who led consultations and mediation efforts in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba enclave.

Presenting the report, Mr Bombande thanked the President, the Interior Minister, the Overlord of Gonja and other stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the process. He noted that conflict resolution requires sustained effort and collective responsibility.
He urged the government to prioritise the implementation of the recommendations and to establish a clear roadmap and monitoring mechanism to ensure that the proposals translate into lasting peace and stability in the area.
