Managing Director of Interplast, Hayssam Fakhry, is impressing on corporate leaders the need to give back to society in their individual capacities beyond Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Mr. Fakhry said this after personally donating items worth ¢30,000 to the Skating football team, Rollaball group at UTC in Accra.
This included 2 sets of jerseys, 2 sets of protective gears, face towels, skateboard wheels, sweat wrist band and face towels.
He described this as his personal contribution to the society and encouraged other philanthropists and sports ministry to support the sector. He also pledged his outfit's commitment to support the group annually.
Speaking to JOY BUSINESS after the donation, he noted that, he decided to support the group after his attention was drawn to the plight of these young polio survivors through a video on social media.
“We did this purely out of our own initiative. After seeing a video on YouTube, I decided personally to help these boys. As we know, unfortunately, they are all not well physically and they seem to have a great time on Sundays playing the rollerball and if we can help them enjoy it more then it’s a great deal for our company.”
“I entreat other corporate entities to take a cue from this because I believe every company should be looking at the less fortunate people and help them out to make the best off the street and have an enjoyable time once in a while. It is very rewarding” he said.
The young polio survivors usually converge at a deserted taxi rank around UTC in Accra on Sundays for the sport.
But for the game, many of such persons are forced to make a living by begging on the streets - dodging traffic at the busiest intersections in the capital.
