Jamie Vardy scored his fifth goal in five games as revitalised English champions Leicester enjoyed a sixth win on the bounce in a 2-0 victory over doomed Sunderland.
Marc Albrighton made all the difference as he set up fellow substitute Islam Slimani to nod home the opener on 69 minutes.
Leicester then showed the hallmark of last season's title-winning season as they broke up the park with Albrighton leaving Billy Jones for dead before finding England striker Vardy to thump a blistering shot beyond Jordan Pickford in the visiting goal to seal matters 12 minutes from the end.
The result sees Leicester move up to 10th in the table on 36 points from 30 matches, safe from relegation and on course for a respectable top-half finish, but Sunderland remain bottom of the table under the frazzled David Moyes, whose side are eight points adrift of safety and destined for the drop.
Sunderland manager David Moyes looks dejected.
Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare becomes the first British manager to win his first five Premier League matches in charge of a team, strengthening his case for a long-term deal at the end of the season.
Indeed, only Italian Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea and Manchester City's Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, with six apiece, have enjoyed a better start.
