Junior High Schools (JHS) students across the country will be taken through a Covid-19 sensitisation programme when schools reopen on Monday.
President Akufo-Addo who revealed this during his 13th address to the nation on measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus said this is to condition their minds.
“Through the District Directors of Education and the District Directors of Health, a Covid-19 Sensitization Programme will be organised for all headteachers and their teaching staff, from Monday, the first day of school,” he said.
According to him “this will ensure that the dos and don’ts of the protocols are clearly spelt out for the teachers for onward transmission to the students.”
The president some weeks ago announced the easing of restrictions for educational institutions to allow final year students at the university, Senior High School (SHS) and JHS level to complete their exit examinations.
As the students, teaching and non-teaching staff at the JHS level prepare to comply with their part of the directive, he said efforts are underway to educate the heads and stakeholder in the value chain on the dynamics, case management mechanisms and protocols.
This is to ensure that the health of students is not jeopardised during the process.
Final year students in second-cycle institutions and the universities have already resumed following the president’s directive.
Lauding the general adherence to health protocols in these institutions, president Akufo-Addo admitted that “there have been a few hitches.”
He added that “the washing of hands under running water, the maintenance of social distancing, the refrain from shaking hands and hugging, and the wearing of masks, have become a part of the routine of school life.”
He wants the high standards of compliance to be replicated in the junior high schools.
