Aide to the flag-bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Abu Jinapor has called on politicians and social commentators to exhibit courtesy during public discourse. His comment comes after the infamous Nana Akomea and Deputy Tourism Minister James Agyanim Boateng’s outburst on Joy FM’s current affairs programme Newsfile which resulted in the spewing out of unpalatable language on air between the two gentlemen while commenting on government’s attempt to bribe journalist to do its bidding. Also, religious leaders and the civil society have raised concerns about the politics of insults which is creeping into the political activities in the country. They have therefore called on government and political parties to sanction members who engage in such acts. But Abu Jinapor on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, said the onus lies with politicians to respect each other’s opinion while engaging in public discourse which is in the interest of the country. He added that it is the responsibility of politicians to educate the public on activities of the government and not to resort to insults when their arguments are being flawed by their opponents. However, on the Akomea and Agyanim Boateng saga, Abu Jinapor believes the Deputy Tourism Minister got what he really deserves for disrespecting Nana Akomea. He noted that James Agyanim Boateng decided to insult the integrity of the Communications Director of the NPP when he (James) released that the concerns being raised by Nana Akomea on government attempt to bribe journalist were legitimate. The NPP member stated that James Agyanim Boateng did not show any sign of remorse after he offended Nana Akomea but sought to provoke him the more. Abu Jinapor urged members of the government’s communications team to deal with facts when addressing issues raised by the NPP rather than insults as a form of defense.
